CBT: This is the beginning of your motorcycling career, the course is all about the basics of learning to ride, equipment and basic maintenance, controls of the machine and how to ride on the road. If you wish to either pass your “Motorcycle test” or ride up to a 125cc bike on    plates (for 2 years or you have to renew CBT). Then you have to complete and obtain a CBT certificate (DL196). Course Description

This is the beginning of your motorcycling career; the course is all about the basics of learning to ride, equipment and basic maintenance, controls of the machine and how to ride on the road. If you wish to either pass your “Motorcycle test”, or ride up to a 125cc bike on plates, for 2 years or you have to renew CBT. Then you have to complete and obtain a CBT certificate (DL196). The CBT course itself is based on a day’s tuition, however if we feel you need longer to reach a safe standard then there is no further charges it’s all included in the price as is bike and equipment hire.

All equipment can be supplied, as well as HIRE BIKES. The CBT certificate will allow you to ride up to 125cc on "L" plates for 2 years. You need a current CBT if you wish to pass a motorcycle test.

CBT is usually a 1 day course consisting of off road and on road exercises and once completed we will issue a certificate which will validate your licence for 2 years and allow you to ride up to 125cc on L plates for 2 years.

Once completed both we can move on to the 2 part riding test training, this may take up to a further 5 sessions depending on experience levels currently, you will be riding a large capacity machine ultimately (though you may need to start on a 125cc)

Compulsary Basic Training (DL196)

125cc rider training: learning to ride (or ride your own motorcycle) of this size of motorcycle is legal with a current CBT, pass a test on this size motorcycle you are allowed to ride without “L” plates and carry pillions, ride on motorways etc (though not recommended!) this will also allow the taking of further category tests on motorcycles subject to age/ experience without renewing CBT/ theory test.

We will organise tests for the Module 1&2 for you and take you to and from.

125cc L Test

(age19+) all training to ride on the road or to pass a rider test and remove those L Plates. This allows you to ride on the road on larger capacity machines. This is a category A2 machine.

List of machines suitable are available from .gov websites and motorcycle manufacturers. A2 machines are mostly over 395cc with a max power of 95BHP (70kw) restricted to 45 BHP (35KW) with a certain power to weight ratio as well hence see web sites for current info.

ROSPA Advanced Assessment/Training

This now appears to be quite a complex subject to get “your head round” but is actually reasonably straightforward and I hope to make it as simple as possible. It is all based around age limits and CC/BHP/KW limits. The manufacturers tend to use CC/KW limits, in the training field we tend to use CC/BHP much easier to understand (any manufacturers tech specs will include BHP/KW).

So here we go: Licence groups, this is what you can ride yourself on the road with (bear with me on this one!)

AM/P/Q: basically these are all 50cc mopeds: can all be ridden from 16 years upwards.

AM: speed min 25kph to 45kph

P: speed min 45kph to 50kph

Q: speed max 25kph

Euro legislation hence all the KPH!

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) certificate required: YES

Full car licence prior to 1st February 2001 (no CBT required if you have full moped licence, full car licence post 2001 CBT required)

That covers what you can ride on without an instructor and on provisional licence or full car licence.

Simply: 16 on AM, P, Q (CBT see above)

17 on A1 (CBT required)

TEST REQUIREMENTS: this section covers what you can ride for a test and after you have passed a test.
